Real quick, I had an issue where the latest 8bitdo updater wasn’t detecting the controller. I fixed it by running the 8bitdo updater as Administrator (right click on the application, then select ‘Run as Administrator’). I ran this before I plugged in the controller. Afterwards, I plugged in the controller, without the battery, and while holding down L1 + R1. That took me to the controller selection menu right away.

Lon.tv, of YouTube fame, created a petition to prevent stations from adding DRM to their new ATSC 3.0 broadcast channels.
You probably already know this already, but ATSC 3.0 is the new broadcasting standard that allows for more channels, 4K resolution, surround sound, interactivity features, and much better reception (also a bunch of additional features that probably won’t be used ever). Along with these features is DRM — a way to restrict what can be done with the broadcast once it gets to your home. For instance, the broadcasters can place restrictions to only allow a set of manufacturers to receive broadcasts and prevent/restrict DVR recordings. They’ve already rolled out this “feature” to several ATSC 3.0 stations, even causing several issues with newly purchased ATSC 3.0 tuners.
Thankfully there’s a few places that you can go to get your voice heard before ATSC 3.0 is fully rolled out:

Yeah, I know I haven’t posted anything on tgorg.com, in, like, one and a half years. Unfortunately, I’ve been a bit busy, to say the least. But anyways, I’ve just found and purchased The Journeyman Project Turbo 2 : Buried in Time, a sequel to The Journeyman Project, a game that I’ve played when I was a kid back in the day. Much to my surprise, when I opened the box, I found both Buried in Time and the original game! Awesome.
One of the memories I have of it was, strangely enough, the readme file. Just for laughs and giggles, I’ve decided to post the readme file. I’ve (in)appropriately bolded and italized all the old technology references. Times have most certainly changed…

One of my projects involved validating only the query part of the url using regular expressions (i.e. everything after the ?). It took me ages to figure out a proper regex, so I thought it might help someone here by posting it:

Note: this only works for validating the query string, so adding the actual url will prevent a match, making the string to search invalid.

For those of you who don’t know, Microsoft has been pretty busy lately making a few videos with Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates. It’s kinda funny, you may want to look at them (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/).
There’s an interesting thing to note here. First, this isn’t Microsoft’s first foray with funny videos. They’ve been doing it for several of their events; the most recent of which was a video about Bill Gates trying different “vocations” to determine what to do when he’s retired. But this is their first attempt at something at a more national level.
So what does this mean? To me, Microsoft has found a hook. They used what seemed to work in small scale, and brought it to a larger scale with satisfying results. However there’s more to this than just funny videos.
Microsoft always reminded me of, well, people like me. The geek. The semi-awkward guy that knew a lot (and by the way, Apple would be the cool suave dude-guy and IBM the seasoned engineer). However, now they have something that they can show off that’s bold; their humor. They show themselves to be able to be funny, and funny in a way that makes their geekiness shine. Sorta like a rock star geek that has no inhibitions. Or someone you see in their car singing at the top of their lungs without knowing they’re being watched by people in cars around him. I think a lot of that is attributed to Bill Gates being in the video.
There’s something attractive in this portrayal of themselves; the “I’m a geek and I don’t care what others think” kinda deal. I think if they keep going with that image they could do pretty well. It make me more interested in Microsoft. Just my hunch; I don’t know too well about the industry to make an 100% accurate statement.
