locast2plex

Kind of a sad, died-before-it’s-time project. There was a non-profit service called locast that allowed users to receive a stream of antenna tv from their local area. This was much like Aereo (remember them?), but locast was technically offering this for no to low cost ($5/month).

The only issue was, unlike antenna tv, I couldn’t hook it up to a media/DVR server (like plex, emby, or jellyfin) and record shows. This python script (inspired by telly) was a way to make this work.

In the end, I learned a lot about python, and met a lot of cool people.
